I got a new Gundam… (Iron Blooded Orphans Option Set 4)

I got a new Gundam… High Grade 1/144 scale, Iron Blooded Orphans Option Set 4, to be exact.
As usual I got this kit from the awesome guys at Dublin City Comics and Collectables.

Inside the box, you’ll find…

A small bag of Runners, in a purple/ lilac colour, and a small instructions sheet.

Once assembled, you have a booster (Primarily for the HG IBO Kimaris), a sword, and a new Mobile Worker.

A bit of a disclaimer is called for in my review of this Option Kit. Option Kit 4 is geared towards the Kimaris, and I don’t like the Kimaris. Not its look, gimmicks, or  it’s colour style (I do however very much like the Kimaris Trooper, even though they share many similarities).
This Option Kit is by far the weakest of those released thus far, IMO. If your a fan of the Kimaris, then go ahead and get this kit. If you fancy a pretty cool looking sword for your Graze or Graze variant, it’s sort of a 50/50 answer.  But hey, at least we get another mobile worker to add to your collection (at some point I will paint up the ones I already have).
Until next time, I’ll see you at the table.

I got a new Gundam (Iron Blooded Orphans McGillis Schwalbe Graze to be exact)

I got a new Gundam, High Grade Iron Blooded Orphans McGillis Schwalbe Graze, jaysus thats a mouthful and a half.

I was lucky enough to get mine from…

image

In the box you get…

image

…3 bags of sprues, an instruction guide and some advertisements.

unlike with my Barbatos kit, i didnt get a little game card with this kit. I dont know how true it is but i have been previous been told that the little game cards were only included with the first production run of the Iron Blooded Orphans Gundams. Oh well…

In the bags, you’ll find 7 sprues, a sprue of polycaps and a small sticker sheet…

image

… the sprues are molded in 2 shades of blue (a light and a dark colour) and 2 different shades of gray (again a light and a dark shade).

With the sticker sheet i had a bit of a problem.

image

First is the V- shaped sticker for the head. It has to be position correctly so it doesnt block a slit that the top part of the head attaches to, then you have to fold it over. Its understandable, but would have been nice to have separate parts.

image

For the most part the Schwalbe is a similar build to the standard Graze Gundam (the green grunt suit from IBO) but with a few differences shoulder pads, back pack and new leg + arm pieces.

Accessory wise he comes with the same weapons as the Graze Gundam. He has an axe and a gun but comes with a cool wrist mounted blade/ harpoon.

image

image

As a side note, the wrist blade can be removed from the Schwalbe and added to the Barbatos similar to the Graze’s shoulder pads. I’m not going to show this off just yet as i still need to get a Graze for myself.

The Schwalbe can be further upgraded thru the IBO Option Kit 1. The Option Kit 1 gives the Schwalbe a new gun (a sort of small snub nose machine gun) + a new melee weapon (a lance type weapon), best of all these 2 slot together to make 1 piece.

All in all, i really like this kit. It’s similar but different enough so not to be repeatable.

I got a new Gundam (Iron Blooded Orphans Option Set 1 to be exact)

I got a new Gundam (sort of), High Grade Iron Blooded Orphans Option Set 1 with CGS Mobile Worker.

image

It’s a weapons upgrade set for the Gundams from the new anime Iron Blooded Orphans.

I was lucky enough to get mine from…

image

In the box you get…

image

… a small bag of spues, stickers and a small assembly guide.

In the bag you’ll find just 2 sprues and the sticker sheet.

image

On a closer look at the sprues you’ll notice all the parts are the same colour.

image

All the white displayed on the box is supplied either via the sticker sheet or by painting. I can only assume that the parts were all molded in the same colour in order to keep production costs down and to give it as low a price point as possible.

When assembled and the stickers applied to the parts of the Options kit, they look like this…

image

… and the cute little CGS Mobile Worker looks like this…

image

Maybe it was me but the Mobile Worker is alot smaller than i expected. Here it is beside Barbatos, so you really see the height difference…

image

… but he’s so cute, i think i’m gona call him Vinny.

As you might have noticed by now, certain parts will have to be painted if you want them to look anime accurate (namely the lance, shield and Mobile Worker).

As i said the Option kit 1 is a weapons upgrade kit but its not just for Barbatos. Actually the cannon is the only item specifically in the kit for him (but that doesnt mean he cant use the others). Looking back at the box art…

image

You’ll see that the shield is for the standard Graze (the green guy) and the lance is for the McGillis Schwalbe Graze (the blue guy). The lance actually has a cool little feature were the little machine gun you get slots into it.

In the previous article i did about the High Grade Iron Blooded Orphans lead Gundam Barbatos, I purposefully omitted a feature of that kit. The reason for the omission is this kit. In the Barbatos kit you get two extension pieces for his backpack.

image

They are used to extend the 2 detachable parts of his backpack into a lowered position so that you can equip the canon you get in the Options 1 kit, like this…

image

… giving Barbatos a big ass ranged weapon.

image

Size isnt important, its the calibur of your weapon…

image

… and Barbatos has it in both departments.

I recently got my HG McGillis Schwalbe Graze kit (the blue guy from the box art) so expect to see more soon.
